I have neglected this site recently. It bothers me that I didn’t post something about this when it happened.
On April 11th, 2007, Kurt Vonnegut passed away. Mr. Vonnegut was a brilliant writer, humanist, and pacifist. I haven’t read all of his stuff, but its on the menu. Having adored a few of his most popular books, I can say with reasonable certainty that there are few other people I would have liked to spend an afternoon with. Just sit on a porch and let the man rap about whatever he wanted. Vonnegut’s wicked sense of humor and distinct voice has always attracted me to his work. And being a sci-fi nerd, his seemingly transparent use of science fiction to set up ideas was always a treat. Although most of his most popular novels had heavy science fiction elements, I’ve never heard him described as a science fiction author. He was just a great writer.
His passive view of death in particular is something that is always making me laugh. I’m sure the old fart swore his way into heaven without too much spitting. So it goes.
