Old Woman Names

Where one might see boredom, I see observation. For absolutely no reason I started listing women’s names that you never see any more. I’d like to know what made these names go out of favor. Some of these are really pretty. What’s wrong with Eleanor? It’s a good name. Pretty much any name that featured prominently in a 50′s play is no longer used today.

Feel free to add to the list. Or tell me if I’m completely wrong.

Josephine
Eleanor
Blanche
Eunice
Muriel
Dorothy
Abigael
Ethel
Esther

Hey Greg, I thought Blanche was something you did to vegetables. Cheryl’s mom’s name is Ethel!! I’m telling her you called her old. You’re screwed.

    How about Maude?

Phyllis… who in this day and age would name their daughter Phyllis? I think your wrong on Josephine. I would seriously consider that as a name for my next kid.

My name’s Josephine, but I’ve only ever met one other in 21 years of life – it is an old woman name, but hey, with all these names, all they need is the right person to bring them back into fashion, and when I make my millions and become famous (maybe not in that order) it’ll be a popular name again!
