We should have been listening to Al Gore wayyyy before An Inconvenient Truth came out. If there’s any doubt that global warming is real, please take a look at the temperature outside today. High of 65 degrees. December 10th. 65 degrees in New York City. Can’t blame it on El Niño anymore.

I really hope that Al has Bam’s ear and that he’s receptive to environment and climate issues. It’s no longer something our kids are going to have to deal with. We’re dealing with it right now. Please take steps to lower your carbon footprint people. Though this website can often come off as apathetic, this is something I truly believe in.

Excelsior!

We have to do something now.
I don’t know when I’ll see snow again.

Neil Young you glorious bastard. He’s a Mountie. He’s a model train enthusiast. Oh and he’s written some of the best songs ever. And now Neil Young has a new little endeavor that can possibly change attitudes about internal combustion. The alpha Crazy Horse has started a company called Linc Volt that aims to retro-fit classic cars (or any for that matter) with hybrid engines. Exchanging that catylitic converter with the cool breeze of electricity.

Neil Young likes his cars long and heavy, with tail fins sharper than the cheddar I put on my Triscuits. But his love of the environment supplants any automotive eccentricities. Lets face it. The Prius is no ’63 Corvette. When a man like Neil Young rides in a green car that looks bad ass, people stand under the Harvest Moon and take notice. I hope it takes off.

The hot planetary issue these days is Global Warming. And it’s about time. We’ve been talking about conservation, ozone holes, and the three R’s for a few decades now. But it seems like nobody took it really seriously until now. Our home world is under attack every single day.. by us. Instead of destroying ourselves with nuclear weapons, we’re slowing eating away at our planet’s ability to harbor humankind (or any -kind for that matter). In a hundred years, we’ve done more damage to the atmosphere than all other history combined. How can we treat something that protects us with such insolence? All is not lost however. The good thing about this amazing blue marble is that it can heal itself. If we take action now, we can reverse almost all of the damage we’ve done. If we act locally, we can gain a balance between ourselves and the planet proper.

And that is what this potent video is about. Normally, when a bunch of celebrities get behind a single cause, it drives me mad and turns me off. But being “Green” is something everyone should consider and certainly something I believe in. This video came to me on the National Geographic video podcast and I figured it would be a good thing to pass on. I hope National Geographic doesn’t mind. What’s striking about this video is that its a simple call for people to switch the incandescent light bulbs in their homes with newer, energy efficient fluorescent bulbs. Seems easy enough. Act locally. Why can’t we make this mandatory? If they can switch to digital broadcast TV in 2009, and mandate that everyone must buy a digital receiver or be without TV, why can’t we enforce a simple switch of your light bulbs. Shit, stop making incandescent bulbs. Lower your electric bills and lower your carbon footprint. Change your bulbs or be without light.

Environmentalism, being Green, and energy conservation will be a big issue in the coming Presidential elections. Choose wisely.
