Not very happy today. I need my wisdom teeth taken out. And I’m bummed that there’s no one around to look after me while I recover. It’s not like I need to be waited on hand and foot, but the thought of staying in my apartment -for a week- by myself- while in pain- is pretty unbearable. If anyone would like to stop by with soup or milkshakes that would be nice. I’ll be stewing in my own filth for a week. (I hope not longer.) Don’t know when this is going to happen, but probably within the next couple of weeks.

I’ve put it off as long as I could, but now I’m in near constant pain and it’s time to rip these suckers out. Doctor’s orders. I had two taken out about 12 years ago and why that dentist did not take all four out at the same time is beyond me. If I could find that dentist I’d bite him.

At least painkillers exist.

I was asked to be interviewed for a short documentary film about body image. The film’s director, Lala Wood, for some reason thought I’d be a good “guy’s guy” and that I’d be willing to speak candidly on camera. Little did she know of my own body image issues (though judging from the film, I’m guessing she assumed) and that I use Photoshop as my diet of choice.

Well apparently I didn’t let her down because she used one of my bites in the final cut. The short film was done as an addendum to the promotional website for the new Neil LaBute play “reasons to be pretty“. This is actually LaBute’s first show to be on Broadway, playing at the Lyceum Theatre in March.

You see… I’m in this duo. We come together like once a year and write songs. Usually drunk. Usually sitting in front of a TV with the ballgame on. Or on the beach at the Jersey Shore. This supergroup consists of Mike Fitzpatrick and I (Greg Granito). Our first record is called The Catacombs of Herald Square. Most of our songs seem to end up being about baseball or video games. We’ve been compared to Wham! or Evan and Jaron. (Actually we haven’t, but would that be so bad?) General goofiness ensues.

Here are three cuts off of Catacombs. With lyrics. All songs written by Fitz & Greg. Right click, download, and enjoy.

The NYTVF has finally posted the full pilot episode of Teachers online at YouTube. They even posted it in high-quality, which is the version I’d urge you to watch. Again, Teachers won the 2008 People’s Choice Award at the New York Television Festival last month. Hope you enjoy it.

Feel free to comment on the YouTube page.

I thought this was pretty neat. Some of you probably know what the Internet Archive is. It’s an incredible website that… archives the internet. They have a feature called the Wayback Machine that lets you go back to specific times in the past to see what websites looked like. Check out Yahoo! in ’96.

Well here’s Miabifilms back in the day. I started Miabifilms in 2002 but I guess it wasn’t being archived until August 2003. Due note that I was blogging before anyone knew what that meant. Total geek.

WE WON!! Last night “Teachers” took home the People’s Choice award at the New York Television Festival. An actual People’s Choice Award. Beyonce` and I finally have something in common. This award was essentially the top prize for the night. Made extra special because it was voted on by festival attendees. Many many congratulations to Jim and Chris for an outstanding job. I’m happy to ride their coattails to an award and further success. Cafaro took a bunch of pics of the event. I’ll try to get some of those up. But here’s the winning moment…

We friggin won!

My euphoria continued after the awards show dear friends. Because I had tickets to the opening night of Sigur Ros’ fall tour in NYC. My favorite Icelanders played at the stunning United Palace in Washington Heights. As always, the sound was unbelievable. Sigur Ros is the most powerful band on the planet. It must take all the geo-thermal energy in Reykjavik to make a Sigur Ros show possible. Sounds that will blow your mind. Sweet falsetto. Sweeter xylophone!

Sigur Ros was looser than I’d ever seen. I actually heard them mess up a few times. Maybe a little rusty after two weeks off from touring. Jonsi addressed the crowd several times. Which I’d never even heard of. And it was sometimes hilarious because he would do it in Icelandic first.

The absolute highlight of the show for me was Gobbledigook. Sigur Ros you can dance to. They really are as powerful as ever.

Reykjavik or bust. Check out these completely AWESOME pictures from the show that Ryan Muir took for Brooklyn Vegan.

Later, we went back to the NYTVF after-party and celebrated the “Teachers” win until the sun nearly came up.

What a night! I hate being at work right now.

Nice T-shirt
Me wearing the same old T-shirt I wear all time.

For people who have been around for 3+ years, you may recall me mentioning something about a movie Christian Lesperance and I did called Stall.

Stall is a short comedy written & directed by Christian about a guy stuck in a bathroom stall. I produced it. We shot in the summer of 2005, but the editing process had a complete breakdown. There was an initial rough cut that we could chomp on. But our footage then traveled across the country to Los Angeles where it was more or less stolen for 8 months. Eventually we got the footage back… but had moved on to other projects. Stall was stalled.

Almost a year ago I re-acquired the hard drive from Christian that had all of our material on it and decided to take matters into my own hands. I’ll finish the edit myself. I hated having this incomplete movie over my head. Christian had all but divorced himself from the project. (He wants an Alan Smithee credit.) So it was up to me. I didn’t want to let it die.

Amped up, I went in to edit the thing and discovered- the drive had been corrupted! I wasn’t able to continue the work we had finished up to that point. And faced with the prospect of starting completely over from our source tapes… I procrastinated.

When we started doing “Teachers” this past May, Stall came up again and I had new enthusiasm. I was determined to finish it this time. Just a few days ago I managed to get Stall back online and began cutting and trimming what will become the finished movie.

In honor of this momentous occasion I give you two teaser trailers to feast your eyes and bellies on and a promise that a completed movie will be posted soon.

We have reached the pinnacle of civilization. I knew this day would come. Didn’t think it would happen this soon or in this manner though.

Yes, I’m sure I’ve proclaimed this before, and will most likely do it again when they perfect teleportation. But I can unequivocally say at this very moment that we have arrived. Ladies and gentleman, we can now print logos and other images in a sepia-toned, caramel-flavored design directly on our lattes. Yes. They can now put artwork on the surface of a beverage.

A company named OnLatte, Inc. has designed a special printer called, cleverly, the Latte Art Machine. It is in prototype form but if the results are any indication of what this puppy can do, we’ll be at version 1.0 in no time. Just hope they come up with a better name before every trendy little coffee shop goes out and buys one of these. Holy Barista Batman!

OnLatte displayed their new toy at the SIGGRAPH 2008 conference with wild success. Here’s a bunch of images of the caffeinated goodness from that very conference. There’s also a video at that page that demonstrates how this thing works.

While I didn’t travel to Los Angeles for the festivities, I can imagine through the magic of Photoshop, what a Miabi Mochaccino would look and taste like. Down the hatch.

Whenever I change my profile on Myspace I like to post the old one here. Gives my listeners a little insight into what makes me me. I usually go the list route. I like lists. Anyway, I’m about to change it up over there, (though I don’t know why, I’m about to jump ship for Facebook) So here is the last one I had up.

——–

Me? I’m selfish, judgmental, arrogant, insecure, sharp, dull, supercilious, quirky, shy, excitable, grumpy, inured, human and working on bitter.
…I used a thesaurus for that.

A masochist and I love sadists.

My mouth gets me into trouble more than I’m comfortable with.

My stupidity gets me into trouble more than I’m comfortable with.

The look on my face gets me into trouble more than I’m comfortable with.

I like being Italian.

I add an S to all my Gregg Rule notebooks. But I cross out the extra g at the end, so it looks stupid.

As a prank, the next time you’re introduced to someone, respond with this..
“Ah, so you’re the person I’m supposed to kill.”

I want my gravestone to say…
Here lies Greg Granito.
He did a few things right. Except not dying.

Not into politics, but I’ll never hesitate to give my opinion on an issue, regardless of any knowledge or background of said issue.

I’ve got love to give.
