Watch my homegirl Tina Fey return to SNL as Sarah Palin. Her and Poehler knock it out of the park in this bit to open the new season. Really hilarious ladies.

Since today seems to be more about politics than reflection, here are two campaign pictures that threw me.

A sense of relief. A little shock and awe. Maybe a self-noogie?

I’m very pleased to report, someone is reporting that Vatican chief astronomer Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes has given the A-OK on believing in aliens. That’s right dear friends. Any of you god-fearing conspiracy theorists doing late night Google searches on STS-48 and the Mantell Incident need worry no longer. According to the good Reverend, and by extension the Pope himself, you’ve been given the all clear. This will not “contradict your faith in God”.

Rev. Funes is a pragmatist you see. Sounding a lot like David Morse in Contact he says, “How can we rule out that life may have developed elsewhere?” Further adding that ruling out the existence of aliens would be like “putting limits” on God’s creative freedom. And who wants to make an already vengeful god even crankier? Never limit an artist.

You think this is crazy? You gotta hear what this guy is saying about the Big Bang theory. Most “reasonable”? Science!

Is this the Catholic Church’s way of becoming hip again? It is blockbuster season and sci-fi is in high demand. I’m really just surprised that the Vatican actually has a chief astronomer.

I just read that the Supreme Court will review the “constitutionality” of the lethal injection as a form of capital punishment. Isn’t this a waste of time and money?

Ok fine, Lethal Injection don’t work? We’ll just find another way to kill our prisoners that’s more constitutional. No big woop.

UPDATE! “Don’t tase me, Bro” has been voted the top quote of 2007. This has made my year. Haha!!

I do not understand the fallout from this incident at the University of Florida. Big deal. He got tasered. That’s the whole point of a taser. It’s a non-lethal weapon. A stun gun.

You have an ex-presidential candiate up there. Still a powerful political voice. Security is obviously heightened. This guy couldn’t calm down for two minutes? They warned him about the taser and asked him several times to relax. If he’d shut his mouth and regained his composer he might have walked out of there without being tonight’s news headline. (oh what… he planned this as a way to bring attention to the excessive use of non-lethal weapons?)

He might have even gotten his questions answered, or at least entertained, by Senator Kerry if he’d cooled down. This jack ass is lucky he lives in a culture which protects jack asses.
