Whenever I change my “About Me” on the en vogue social networking site of the day, I like to re-post it here. Below was on my Facebook for about 7 months. Has it only been 7 months? It’s been a sssslllloooowww year.

——-

I do a lot of stupid, unexplainable things. I am slave to impulse and usually indulge them without too much thought of consequence. I’ll drink vodka and club soda all night long because it the most “healthy” alcoholic drink. Only to hit up the pizza place for three slices in a drunken stupor at 3am. I’ve had a membership to a local gym for three months and haven’t been there in two. When I was quitting cigarettes I’d buy a pack, smoke one, and throw out the other 19. Just as a way of guilting myself into quitting. It worked… for a time.

I have a mini panic attack every time I get candy from a vending machine for fear that it might get stuck. I only use fans that oscillate, so as not to be a glutton for a breeze. For some reason… and I never go through with it… I want to pronounce “jock-strap” as “jacques strap”.

I loved Pinkerton the first time I heard it. The first concert I ever went to was The Who… at Giants Stadium… with my mom and dad and brother. I do love that guitar.

I’m a real person who will always give a person the benefit of the doubt and a fair shot the first time I meet them. I pre-judge, but I will never let that prejudice interfere with a person’s ability to endear themselves to me. I like to laugh, I hate to cry, and I like to voice my own ill-conceived opinions. Like everyone, I’ve got my very own set of hang-ups. But quite frankly, I am the best person I know.

As much as I love Batman, I’m more amazed at the production value of this video. Be sure to watch parts 2 and 3 if you can stand it.

I just read that Lee Redmond, a woman in the Guinness Book of World Records for her long fingernails, was in a serious car accident on Tuesday. During the accident, her record-setting fingernails were shorn off. It is reported that she hadn’t cut them since 1979. Luckily Redmond, though still in serious condition, did not receive life-threatening injuries.

Here is my appeal to you Ms Redmond. Do not re-grow your fingernails. This is a blessing in disguise. The past 30 years have given way to a slurry of technological advancement, not seen since a steam engine powered the Industrial Revolution. I’m presuming you have family? Watch in amazement as this thing called a “cell phone” dials that niece you haven’t spoken to in years. You keep it in your pocket and bring it with you everwhere!

They now have a vast array of networked computers they’re calling the “World Wide Web”. There you’ll find a “website” called Facebook. While on Facebook you can keep up with old friends or tell people what you’re up to by typing “status messages”. Remember typing?

Be amazed that you can pick up things with your 10 digits with little to no effort at all. Lee, this really is for the best. And hey, while you’re at it, why don’t you get a new haircut to go along with your newly shortened fingernails?

Lespants recently asked me if I’d like to collaborate on a “How To” video for the Emerging Filmmaker Program at Howcast.com. I was kinda blah about it at first- until he suggested putting my new After Effects skills to work. Seeking any opportunity to use my favorite game for good, I jumped on it.

Howcast is a pretty cool How To site which has hundreds of neat video tutorials. Things like How To Pick up a Flight Attendant and How To Look Hot While Playing “Rock Band”. This is not your father’s How To website.

It all gets wrapped up in their standardized packaging. They provide a basic script, a VO track, graphics, and access to a music library. Leaving us to shoot it any way we want.

We downloaded How To Do a Flea-Flicker. (Grammatically incorrect title. Should be: How to RUN a Flea-Flicker) Christian shot it in front of a green screen on HD with our friend Noah Starr filling in as the entire team. Then I edited it and ran it through After Effects; adding backgrounds and motion graphics work. It was fun to see it all come together and it helped me perfect my FCP to AE to FCP workflow.

Have a looksie… Hopefully you’ll dominate this year’s family pigskin pickup game.

YeeeeeeeAAAAAHHHHH! WHOaaaaaaAAAA. This is some mindless fun! It’s The Diamond Dave Soundboard. String together the isolated vocal’s from Van Halen’s “Runnin’ With The Devil” and finally once and for all admit that David Lee Roth WAS Van Halen.

I woke up this morning to a really fun email from my friend Dennis out in Portland. He stumbled onto this site called www.xtranormal.com. xtranormal is a sophisticated (I think) web application that allows you to create simple animations by just typing in text. No animation experience required. If you can type out dialogue and have basic idea of story structure, you can create really nice animations. It’ll take you a few renders to get it right, but I’m confident you’ll be happy with your creation.

Anyway, Dennis was kind enough to animate his favorite scene from his favorite Miabi Film Shark.

Watch it. It’s hilarious.

xtranormal also has a cool REMIX feature. You can “remix” most animations on the site by changing dialogue, backgrounds and more. Go here to remix this scene from Shark. And share it with us!

Note: xtranormal has become quite popular over the past few weeks and their servers are feeling the load. They are working on the problem.

So I see today that I’ve added my 300th friend on Facebook. This feels great! I feel so popular. I had no idea I had 300 friends. There might even be a BFF in there! Even though I doubt they are all expecting gifts this year, I feel oddly compelled to get all of my friends $15 iTunes gift certificates. It pays to be my friend. I’m not going to do that. But it’s the thought that counts. The thought of almost giving.

What this really means is that I have 292 acquaintances and 8 friends.

This has been around for a few months now. Though I only found out about it the other day, everyone I talk to seems to already know about it. Is webcam streaming coming back? This was cool in like ’98. I guess it depends on the subject matter. Puppies always get eyes.

Being a pro at this whole internets thing for the past 13 or so years, I can’t say this video shocked me at all. I’ve seen much worse behavior, as I’m sure you have. We’re all jaded aren’t we? I’ll never forget seeing my first be-heading.

This video was shot outside of a Sarah Palin rally in Pennsylvania. Not really known as being one of the most tolerant places in the country. It shows lots of angry, organized, white people shouting horrible things about Barack Obama. Half these people are at the wrong rally. But the preceedings do offer up some funny bites. I rather liked the line, “The only difference between Osama and Obama is the BS!” Clever! I wonder if this is pure generational racism, or if they really don’t like his policies. Additionally, are people really scared that if Barry is elected, he’ll appoint Al Sharpton to a cabinet position? Get real people. What, because he’s black? Barack Obama knows full well that Al Sharpton is a wack-job.

It’s not naive of me to think that all conservatives don’t think the way the people do in this video. And it actually makes me happy that I live in a country that allows jackasses like this to organize. However, someone needs to slap the taste out of these people’s mouths.
